As the “FREE with any purchase” principle has become the norm in the plugin business, we get to write a neat article about another neat gift every month, from the few shops that are by now most known for it. So too in the camp of ADSRsounds, a new month means a new plugin to be given to any customer with any purchase. This month, they feature OPL by discoDSP, a software synth emulation that will rock your boat from their shop back to your studio if you paddle over to get it there before the end of the month.
Featuring two oscillators per channel with a carrier and a modulator, eight waveforms to choose from, ADSR envelope control, phase modulation, and a newly supported Percussion feature, the OPL synth by discoDSP might be the perfect monthly addition to your DAW of many plugins. The OPL is a digital sound synthesis chip developed by Yamaha in the mid-1980s, used primarily but not exclusively in sound cards for PC, and this plugin emulates the sonic capabilities and features of the OPL2 and OPL3 chip, turning it into a plugin synthesizer to use in any DAW and studio environment.
Apart from its capabilities, the approach is quite original, and the instrument file format that went with the Sound Blaster, namely “SBI files”, work as preset files for this plugin, which might be interesting if you can find or own such files.
Until the end of this month, you can purchase anything at ADSRsounds and get OPL from discoDSP for free. Built to be simple but interesting and capable while retaining a certain retro-vibe and 80s feel, it might just be what you need.
OPL from discoDSP is FREE with any purchase at ADSRsounds until September 30th!
