Zaksound has come up with a neat way to go back into the past, not by means of time travel but by developing a plugin containing 620 Megabytes of retro piano sounds that recall musical “key-moments” of the past…pun intended there. The plugin is called Retro Keys VII, it is absolutely and totally FREE to use, and it is available in VST3 for Windows and MacOS.
The plugin itself offers controls for width adjustment, room settings, highpass filtering, pitch, and also an ADSR envelope, centred by a Vinyl knob that lets you layer the sound with vintage “lofi” spice. The library of retro piano sounds contains 7 different types of pianos, each with its own distinct character. The quality is more than ok for a FREE bag of goodies, and the controls offer a fitting level of grip in most DAW-situations. In our quick test-run, we already found a few interesting keys that could fit one of our running projects; but of course, such is a personally biased remark, so best ignore it and just see for yourself whether this plugin could offer value to you.
It works with Windows 7 or up, MacOS El Capitan to Monterey, and requires a 4Gb RAM minimum to properly function. Other than that, there are no strings, no attachments or other sorts of mandatory attachments to the use of this plugin. That means it is properly designed to be downloaded by the lot of you. Go for it!
Retro Keys VII from Zaksound is a totally and forever FREE retro piano library plugin!
