SampleScience has launched a new free synth plugin, the Modular Synth VCO, available for both Mac and Windows. This virtual instrument is designed to mimic the unique sound spectrum of the Doepfer A-110-1 module’s four primary waveforms, offering a distinctive and unconventional auditory experience.

The Modular Synth VCO, despite being a digital instrument, produces waveforms that are unstable, similar to analog oscillators. This instability gives the triangle and sine waveforms a charming imperfection, making them unique and appealing. The synth is capable of creating a wide range of sounds, including deep basses, ethereal pads, thick leads, and soft keys. Its strength lies in producing lo-fi tones, but its versatility extends beyond that.
This plugin comes with a collection of 25 pre-programmed sounds in an FXP preset, though it should be noted that these are not compatible with Logic Pro and the AU version of the plugin.
Modular Synth VCO offers a variety of features, such as four VCO waveforms (rectangle, sine, triangle, and saw), distortion, delay, chorus, reverb, amplitude ADSR, a multi-LFO, a highpass/lowpass filter, amplitude range controls, and three voice modes: polyphonic, monophonic, and legato.
