FET compressors get their name from the Field Effect Transistor (FET), a crucial component of the gain reduction system. These compressors typically offer faster action than other compression technologies and have a warm, rich sound character. The Pulsar 1178, a stereo version of the legendary 1176, does not have the input transformer and the class-A circuitry present in the early versions of the circuit, resulting in less warmth but more transparency.

The product works well on percussive elements, instruments like guitar or bass, vocals, busses, and even as a master compressor. It also includes the famous “All-buttons” or “British” mode, allowing for a compression ratio close to a limiter and the characteristic musical distortion of this mode.

The Pulsar 1178 software is compatible with both Windows and Mac OS and requires a minimum of 4 GB RAM and 1 GB free disk space. It supports AAX Native, Audio Unit, and VST plugin formats.
