Analog Obsession Launches Free Poortec EQ Plugin for Mac and Win
Expiry: None
Analog Obsession has announced the release of its latest audio processing tool, the Poortec EQ plugin, available for both Mac and Windows platforms. Officially launched on January 9, 2025, this plugin is designed to emulate the classic Pultec EQP-1A, offering users a vintage EQ experience with modern enhancements.
The Poortec EQ plugin, now at version 1.0, distinguishes itself with a straightforward PLTC design. Unlike the original, it omits the SRPP gain stage and inductors, opting instead for a Fairchild-style old line amplifier to boost the signal following passive equalization. This approach aims to deliver a clean yet characterful sound.
Among its features, the Poortec EQ includes a low-frequency control that incorporates the well-known PLTC low-end trick, augmented with additional frequency options. The high-frequency section offers a shelf-shape boost and cut at the same frequency, allowing for precise tonal adjustments. A unique TP (Trimpot) feature provides extra drive to the signal, designed as a set-and-forget component for ease of use. The plugin also includes a clean master output and a prominent red bypass button for quick comparisons.
Users will appreciate the plugin’s resizable interface, which can be adjusted from 50% to 200%, accommodating various screen sizes and preferences. However, it is important to note that the Poortec EQ does not support oversampling, a design choice that may appeal to those seeking a more straightforward processing path.
The Poortec EQ is available in several formats. For Mac users, it supports VST3, AU, and AAX Native – Audiosuite, requiring macOS 10.11 or higher, with compatibility for both Intel and Apple Silicon processors. A graphic card supporting Metal is necessary for optimal performance. Windows users can access the plugin in VST3 and AAX Native – Audiosuite formats, compatible with Windows 10 and 11, and requiring a graphic card that supports OpenGL.
Interested users can download the Poortec EQ plugin directly from Analog Obsession’s platform on Patreon.

Performance Samples has announced the release of a free tech demo for its upcoming orchestral library, Vista II Core. This library, designed for use with Kontakt, is anticipated to be available no earlier than the first or second quarter of 2025. While the exact pricing remains undisclosed, it is expected to surpass the cost of the Pacific Ensemble Strings.
Vista II Core offers a mid-sized full orchestra recorded with traditional orchestral positioning. It emphasizes heavily dynamic sampling, including on legatos, and features five microphone positions: close, section, decca, outrigger, and far/ambients. A new approach to legato is introduced, focusing on bowing to enhance movement and expression. Additionally, improvements have been made to marcatos, sordino sustains, same-note repetitions, and tremolos.
The library includes a diverse array of instruments such as 12 violins, 7 violas, 6 cellos, 5 basses, piano, solo harp, 2 harps, solo strings, solo woodwinds, low brass ensemble, and solo brass. These were recorded in a medium-sized space, utilizing a 48kHz / 24bit NCW-compressed format.
Vista II Core is part of a broader suite of modules. The primary large library, Vista II – Core, is complemented by Vista II – Solo Cello Legato, which has already been released. Other modules, including Vista II – Solo Viola Legato, Vista II – Chamber String Essentials, Vista II – Brass, and Vista II – Woodwinds, are yet to be released.
The free tech demo, now available for download, offers a glimpse into the capabilities of Vista II – Core. It features curated patches such as String Ens. Whisper Sustains, Soft Brass Sustains, and Tutti Shorts. The demo requires Kontakt 6.8.0 or above and has a download size of approximately 1.84 GB. Users can incorporate these patches into commercial musical projects under the same End User License Agreement as Performance Samples’ paid products.
Key features of the library include a strong focus on dynamics, with up to 12 dynamics for legato sustains and intervals. The new legato style, developed through extensive research and development, promises a more granular and expressive performance. Bonus materials, such as piano repetitions, repetition-based harp material, and solo brass content, are also included.
The development of Vista II Core involved recording in the same room as previous Performance Samples libraries. It includes both re-recordings and original recordings, offering a diverse range of material inspired by private development and R&D projects. All details regarding the library are subject to change at the discretion of Performance Samples LLC.
