Vienna Symphonic Library releases free Space Organ library with Synchron Player included
Expiry: None
Vienna Symphonic Library has released Space Organ, a free virtual instrument library. The download includes the Synchron Player needed to load and play the sounds.
Space Organ provides sampled organ timbres for use in music production and scoring. The library is designed to run within the included Synchron Player, allowing users to access and control the instrument from a single interface.
With the player bundled, the instrument can be used without a separate software purchase. Users can load presets, manage performance settings, and integrate the library into existing workflows through the player environment.
The instrument can serve roles in composition, arrangement, and sound design where organ textures are required. It may be used for melodic parts, harmonic support, drones, and layered textures alongside other virtual instruments.
Space Organ is available now as a free download with the Synchron Player included.
Surge Synth Team Releases Free Shortcircuit XT Sampler Beta for Windows Mac and Linux
Expiry: None
Surge Synth Team has released the Shortcircuit XT beta, a free sampler instrument for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The project is under active development, with the beta made available in February 2026.
Shortcircuit XT is a sample-driven instrument designed for loading, mapping, and performing audio samples. Current functionality includes SFZ file parsing, sample streaming, and drag-and-drop editing with horizontal zoom behavior. Recent changes also reference voice handling across routing modes and interaction improvements in the tree view, indicating work on playback stability and workflow.
The software has not yet reached version 1.0. The team notes that additional features are planned and tracked for the 1.0 release. Beta users are invited to test the instrument and provide feedback during this phase.
The developers recommend using a limiter on the Shortcircuit XT bus to minimize the risk of unexpected level spikes in the event of a DSP error. They also advise caution when monitoring with in-ear headphones.
Discussion about current functionality and development occurs in the project’s community channels. A design guide outlines the intended direction, and contributors and testers are welcome.
Synsonic Instruments makes previously paid drum plugins free for Windows and Mac
Expiry: None
Synsonic Instruments has made several previously paid drum-focused audio plugins available free for Windows and macOS. The releases come in VST2, VST3, and AU formats. According to the developer, the free products are provided without technical support.
BD-808-PRO focuses on synthesized bass drum sounds oriented toward old-school timbres. It is intended for creating kick parts and low-end accents within electronic and beat-driven arrangements.
Apollon is a drum plugin aimed at programming old-school drum beats. It is designed for rhythm work where classic patterns and straightforward sequencing are required.
BDE-01 is intended for creative bass drum sound design. It centers on shaping and manipulating kick drum timbres for varied percussive textures and customized low-end articulation.
Crow Hill debuts Glass Beaker instrument plugin in free Vaults series
Expiry: None
On January 29, 2026, The Crow Hill Company released Glass Beaker, a sample-based instrument in its free Vaults series. The library captures the sound of laboratory glass beakers to produce a percussive, bell-like timbre that sits between glockenspiel and celeste.
The source material was recorded by Christian Henson at Gorbals Sound in Glasgow. Sessions employed both an XY pair and a spaced pair of Neumann KM184 microphones, alongside a close-miked Neumann U87, providing multiple perspectives on the instrument’s transient and resonance characteristics.
Glass Beaker runs in the Vaults interface and centers on a streamlined set of controls aimed at shaping tone, dynamics, and space.
- Chorus: Modulation for added stereo width and motion.
- Expression: Global control for shaping overall dynamics and performance intensity.
- Low-Pass Filter (LPF): Gradually attenuates high frequencies for softer, more distant textures.
- Delay: Stereo delay for rhythmic echoes and spatial placement.
- Reverb: Convolution reverb with a dry/wet range for short rooms to long tails.
- Crystalliser: Granular-style effect capable of bright, shimmering layers or subtle ambient textures.
The instrument’s tonal palette supports melodic percussion lines, glassy keys, and layered textures. The included effects allow quick transitions from dry, articulate strikes to evolving pads and ambient beds. Filtering and modulation can reduce the instrument’s attack for softer passages, while delay and reverb can extend sustains for more atmospheric contexts.
Glass Beaker is intended for composers and producers seeking compact, mallet-like tones and experimental glass timbres without a complex setup. Its control set is designed for fast adjustments during writing or sound design, enabling straightforward shaping from clean, percussive parts to diffuse, evolving sounds.
