Audio Plugin Guy releases free web apps for musicians and producers with more to follow
Expiry: None
Audio Plugin Guy has released a set of free browser-based tools for musicians, producers, and sound designers. The apps run in a web browser and require no installation.
Producer Utilities: A single-page collection of everyday production references and calculators. It includes a BPM-to-delay-time calculator, a note-to-Hz converter, a compressor timing guide, and an interactive circle of fifths. The page also features daily lists highlighting current plugin deals and free downloads for quick reference.
Song Structure Planner: A tool for building and refining song arrangements using movable section blocks. Users can add, remove, and reorder sections, set custom lengths, and attach notes to each part of the track. It offers pre-built templates as starting points and supports export to a printable PDF with a structure map and space for section-by-section notes. It can be applied to any style that can be organized into sections.
Ear Training for Pitch & Frequency Recognition: A training suite focused on practical listening skills for music production and mixing. It provides three modes: note recognition, interval recognition, and frequency range recognition. The tool is designed to help users identify pitches more accurately, recognize intervals, and locate key frequency areas in a mix during everyday production tasks.
Melodic Sequence Table Generator: A browser tool for users of Kilohearts hosts that converts programmed melodic sequences into LFO Table and Curve files. It is intended to streamline pitch-based modulation by letting users design note sequences more directly than inside the host environment. Because Kilohearts modulators can target any parameter with pitch input—such as oscillators in Phase Plant or a filter—this approach enables precise, note-driven modulation without manual setup for each step.
Rhythm Sequence Table Generator: A companion tool for Kilohearts hosts that builds rhythmic modulation as LFO Table and Curve files. It supports rapid creation of rhythmic patterns and interpolation between patterns within the table. With wavetables serving as LFO sources, users can scan through variations for controlled, evolving rhythmic movement across parameters.
All tools are free to use in the browser and do not require installation. Additional browser-based tools are planned for release.

Wide Blue Sound releases Tracer oscilloscope plugin for Windows and Mac
Expiry: Unknown
Wide Blue Sound has released Tracer, a beat-synced oscilloscope plugin for macOS and Windows. It is available in VST3, AU, and AAX formats.

Tracer provides three visual modes—Beat, Bar, and Waveform—that synchronize to the host DAW’s tempo and transport. The plugin is designed for visualizing timing, transients, and phase relationships in musical context.
A sidechain overlay allows two signals to be displayed simultaneously, such as kick and bass, enabling visual alignment of dynamics and timing. A Sum Sidechain mode combines both inputs into a single waveform, with color shifts indicating which source is louder at any moment.
Rendering is GPU-accelerated to reduce CPU load and maintain visual smoothness at up to 60 frames per second. The plugin introduces no latency and passes audio through without processing.
Customization options include editable themes and support for user-created themes saved as .wbstheme files. Users can add a transparent PNG logo and optionally set it to react to the beat. The interface does not display developer branding.
Channel modes include mono, stereo, left, and right. The visual display scale ranges from -24 to +24 dB for reference only.
For video and live use, Tracer’s window can be captured with common screen-capture tools for YouTube, streaming platforms, or stage visuals. It can also run full-screen on a secondary display.
System support includes macOS 11 (Big Sur) and later on Apple Silicon and Intel processors, and Windows 10 or later on x64 systems.
Tracer is free for a limited time, with a planned price of $39 afterward. Delivery is by email, and no account is required. Free updates are included.
Airwindows releases free ToTape9 tape saturation plugin for Windows Mac and Linux
Expiry: None
Airwindows has released ToTape9, a free, open-source tape saturation plugin for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
ToTape9 emulates analog tape behavior with added brightness compression. It is available as AU and VST2 builds, and within the Airwindows Consolidated package in CLAP, AU, VST3, and LV2 formats. Builds cover 64-bit Windows, Apple Silicon and Intel macOS, Linux x86_64, and Linux ARM. Legacy 32-bit Windows and older macOS builds are also provided. The core download is approximately 810 KB.
Main controls follow tape-machine workflows:
- Input/Output: sets drive and level; output at 0.5 lightly engages the final clip stage.
- Tilt (via Dubly): broad tonal balance toward brighter or darker response.
- Shape: adjusts spectral/dynamic character between softer, more rounded behavior and a cleaner response.
- Flutter: adjustable wow/flutter modulation.
- Bias and Dubly: biasing and noise-reduction-style behavior integrated with the tonal tilt.
The processing core has been revised using techniques derived from prior TapeHack research. The plugin models tape saturation and high-frequency absorption to reduce excessive brightness in a tape-like manner.
A new output stage combines ClipOnly2 with an updated clipping approach that introduces controlled noise at the onset of clipping and confines it to edge samples as hard clipping takes over. The stage is active only during clipping and operates within a small amplitude window. It is designed to handle intersample peaks (Gibbs-effect overs) without upsampling or downsampling, allowing use as a loudness-maximizing stage or as a safety clipper.
Typical uses include adding tape-style saturation on tracks, buses, or the mix; taming high-frequency energy; introducing controllable flutter for movement; and applying gentle to heavy drive while managing output level. The final clip stage can serve to limit intersample overs and raise average level when desired.
ToTape9 is released under the MIT license as open-source software and is available at no cost. Source code and multi-format builds are maintained in the Airwindows repositories, with consolidated packages and legacy archives provided for a range of systems.
