Schulz Audio makes Portacrunch 424 plugin free for Mac and Windows
Expiry: July 19th
Schulz Audio has made its Portacrunch 424 plugin available as a free download for macOS and Windows. The plugin was previously priced at €69. To obtain a license, users must complete the checkout process at a price of €0; downloading the installer alone does not grant a license. The giveaway may end without notice, and licenses cannot be issued later if checkout is skipped.
Portacrunch 424 is an audio processor that emulates the gain stages of a cassette four-track recorder. According to the developer, the signal path is modeled at the component level, including transistors, op-amps, and capacitors, to reproduce the behavior of the original hardware.
The plugin is designed to produce cassette-style saturation, gentle compression, and subtle frequency shaping. Its response changes with input level, allowing clean coloration at moderate levels or more pronounced distortion when pushed.
Intended uses include guitars, vocals, bass, 808s, keys, drums, and mix buses. It can be inserted on single tracks or across a stereo mix to add cohesive tone and dynamic thickening.
A DUAL processing mode runs two simulated circuits in stereo to maintain a consistent stereo image. The developer states that the plugin operates with very low latency and is optimized for efficient CPU usage, making it suitable for tracking or mixing.
Portacrunch 424 is available in VST2, VST3, AAX (Pro Tools), and AU (macOS) formats. It supports 32-bit and 64-bit Windows systems, as well as 64-bit macOS on Intel and Apple Silicon (native and via Rosetta 2). It is compatible with major DAWs.

Ample Sound launches free Ample Bass P Lite 4 virtual bass plugin for Windows and Mac
Expiry: None
Ample Sound has released Ample Bass P Lite 4, a free virtual bass plugin for Windows and macOS. The instrument is based on a classic Fender Precision Bass and ships with the Fingerstyle 1 library.

The Lite edition provides a 560 MB, 16-bit sample set with the following articulations: Sustain, Hammer On & Pull Off, Legato Slide, Palm Mute, and Accent. It supports drop tuning down to D1. Polyphonic legato and a Slide Smoother are included to enable realistic transitions across intervals and tempos.
Riffer 4, the built-in MIDI composition system, is tailored for plucked-string instruments and offers two editor views with real-time switching: Piano Roll and Guitar Tab. A string visualization layer in the Piano Roll constrains notes to realistic string behavior, helps prevent same-string polyphony, and assigns fingering. Riffer supports full MIDI import/export, allowing compositions to be moved between the plugin and a DAW while preserving playback. Technique editing (fingering, articulation, legato, expression) can be programmed directly in the editor. New editors for MIDI CC and Velocity allow multiple CC lanes with color coding and one-click curve presets. The riff library includes hundreds of bass patterns. In the Lite edition, editing is fully available, the preset library is limited, and sequences are capped at 64 measures.
Tab Reader 4 imports bass tracks from Guitar Pro files (GP3 through GP8) into Riffer while retaining fingering, articulations, and performance data. Files made with third-party tab editors are not supported.
The amp and effects section includes three bass amp head models (B15R, BA500, SVT-Pro) and four cabinet options (1×15, 2×10, 4×10, 8×10). Each cabinet offers four microphone models (U87, C414, MD421, SM57). Built-in effects comprise an 8-band EQ, compressor, delay, and convolution reverb.
System requirements:
- macOS 10.15 or later; Windows 7–11 (64-bit)
- Formats: VST2, VST3, AU, AAX, plus standalone
- CPU: Intel i5 or higher
- Disk space: Over 20 GB; SSD recommended
Key differences between the full Ample Bass P (ABP) and Ample Bass P Lite (ABP Lite):
- Content size and depth: ABP is 5.2 GB, 24-bit; ABP Lite is 560 MB, 16-bit.
- Libraries: ABP includes Fingerstyle and Pick; ABP Lite includes Fingerstyle.
- Range: ABP spans B0–F4; ABP Lite covers D1–F4 (standard 4-string range).
- Sampling approach: ABP is individually sampled by string and fret; ABP Lite is sampled by pitch with shared samples across string positions.
- Riffer content: ABP includes the full content library; ABP Lite provides the full editor with a limited preset library and a 64-measure limit.
- Amps: ABP includes three amps; ABP Lite includes one amp within the simplified feature set.
- Articulations: ABP adds Slide In/Out, Pop, Slap, Tap, Staccato, and Natural Harmonics to the Lite set.
Ample Bass P Lite 4 can be used to program electric bass parts in a DAW, compose and edit lines using MIDI or Guitar Pro tabs, and shape tone using the integrated amp/cabinet models and effects.
FeelYourSound adds Live Mode to SongEngine for realtime chord transformation
Expiry: None
FeelYourSound has added Live Mode to SongEngine, enabling realtime chord transformation inside the plug-in. SongEngine is a free chord progression builder and MIDI generator that adapts patterns to the user’s harmony and supports drag-and-drop MIDI export to a DAW.
Live Mode is designed for on-the-fly work: users can trigger and modify transformations while the transport is running, hear immediate results, and commit ideas to MIDI without stopping playback.
SongEngine follows a three-step workflow. Users build chords by importing a MIDI file, arranging chords with drag-and-drop Chord Pads, or generating a progression. They then pick a preset—covering basslines, arpeggios, phrases, and melodies—and audition results in sync with the DAW. Final ideas are exported as standard MIDI files via drag and drop.
The core plug-in includes chord tools for creating and refining progressions:
- Chord Pads with drag-and-drop editing
- MIDI chord import
- Multiple chord progression generators by mood and genre
- A guided progression builder
Preset packages are included with the free version:
- 60+ presets across several free packs
- Automatic adaptation to the current chord progression
- Coverage of basslines, arpeggios, phrases, and melodic parts
Export and file management features support fast iteration. Generated material is written as standard MIDI for use in any DAW. An optional MassExporter can batch-write large sets of generated phrases directly to a folder, useful for building personal MIDI libraries.
SongEngine’s pattern generation is algorithmic and not AI-based. All generated content is designed to follow the user’s chords. According to the developer, the core plug-in is available at no cost, and users may use generated MIDI files in commercial projects.
The tool can be expanded with optional genre-specific extensions that add additional phrases and ideas. Available add-ons include ChilloutEngine, HipHopEngine, HouseEngine, and TranceEngine. These extensions use the same chord-following system as the core plug-in.
System support covers major plug-in formats and operating systems:
- Windows 7, 8, 10, 11 (64-bit), VST2 and VST3
- macOS 10.13 and newer (64-bit Intel or Apple Silicon), AU, VST2, and VST3
Typical use cases for Live Mode include testing alternate basslines and arpeggios against a running progression, transforming chord voicings in realtime, and capturing variations as MIDI clips. Outside of Live Mode, users can assemble full song sections by combining generated parts with their own edits inside the DAW.

NoizLabs releases Beheader clipper and saturation plugin for Mac and Windows free for a limited time
Expiry: Unknown
NoizLabs has released Beheader, a clipper and saturation plugin for macOS and Windows. The software is currently available free for a limited time.

Beheader is designed to manage peaks by clipping only the portion of the signal that exceeds a set ceiling. Unlike a limiter, it does not lower the entire signal level to avoid overs. This approach allows users to control transient spikes or apply controlled saturation while maintaining the rest of the signal unchanged.
The plugin’s Slope control adjusts the clipping curve from soft to hard. At softer settings, the waveform is rounded and additional harmonics are introduced. At harder settings, the threshold is enforced more strictly for denser peak control. The continuous Slope range is intended to let users set the amount and character of clipping for either subtle enhancement or more assertive peak trimming.
Selectable oversampling at 2x, 4x, and 8x runs the clipping stage at a higher internal sample rate before filtering back to the session rate. This is included to reduce aliasing when the plugin is driven and to help preserve transient clarity and high-frequency detail during heavier processing.
Suggested applications include:
- Controlling rogue peaks on a drum bus while retaining transient impact.
- Pushing a mix bus to achieve more level before any downstream limiting stages.
- Clipping vocal peaks by a small amount (e.g., 1–2 dB) before compression so the compressor engages more consistently.
- Using the saturation curve as a tone-shaping stage rather than solely for peak management.
Beheader focuses on clipping and saturation and is not positioned as a limiter. It is intended for users who want direct control over peak handling and harmonic content, with adjustable curvature and oversampling to balance tone and technical cleanliness.
The plugin is available for macOS and Windows as a limited-time free download.
DSPTone offers RESTRUKT for free
Expiry: None
DSPTone has released RESTRUKT, a free spatial processing plugin for macOS and Windows. It combines multiband sustain reduction, tape-style saturation, and a controlled shimmer reverb in a single interface to reshape or replace the perceived room character of an audio source while preserving transients.

The processing chain is arranged in series. A subtractive stage reduces unwanted room bleed, ringing, and muddy sustain across separate low and high bands. A harmonic stage adds tape-style excitation and compression to the dry, transient-focused signal. A final spatial stage injects a localized shimmer reverb that follows the transient activity rather than adding a constant wash. Post-processing filters and output control complete the path.
Core modules and controls:
- Subtractive Acoustic Shaving
- Reduce: Sets the overall amount of sustain attenuation from untouched to aggressive tail muting.
- Divider: Crossover frequency for splitting the signal into low and high processing paths.
- High/Low Threshold: Per-band thresholds that determine when sustain reduction engages.
- Harmonic Excitation (Tape)
- Drive: Adjusts input level into the tape emulation to generate harmonic content and compression.
- Level: Sets the module’s output level before the reverb stage.
- Adaptive Space Injection
- Space: Blends the processed signal with the generated reverb; internally constrained to maintain transient focus.
- Tail: Controls the size and decay time, from tight bursts to longer decays.
- Shimmer: Adds a high-frequency, pitch-excited component to the reverb tail.
- Post FX
- HP Post: 12 dB/octave high-pass filter for reducing low-frequency build-up.
- LP Post: 12 dB/octave low-pass filter for softening high-frequency content.
- Master Level: Global output control.
Intended uses include:
- Acoustic drum loops and breaks: Reducing room resonance and mic bleed, then adding a controlled synthetic space.
- Snares, handclaps, and percussion: Shortening excessive ring and sustain, then enhancing impact with harmonic excitation and a short tail.
- Synth plucks and arpeggios: Tightening decays and applying a focused shimmer field.
- Acoustic guitar loops: Managing boxy room reflections and shaping transients with optional harmonic content and subtle space.
- Vocals recorded in untreated rooms: Trimming early reflections, adding moderate saturation, and applying a restrained plate-style shimmer.
Formats and compatibility:
- Plugin formats: VST3, AU, and AAX, 64-bit only.
- Operating systems: macOS 10.15 or later (Intel and Apple Silicon) and Windows 10 or later.
- DAWs: Compatible with major hosts that support VST3, AU, or AAX, including Ableton Live 11+, Bitwig 4+, Cubase 13+, Digital Performer 11+, FL Studio 23+, GarageBand 10+, Logic Pro 10+, Pro Tools 12+, Studio One 5+, Reaper 6+, Reason 10+, and Cakewalk variants.
System requirements specify 64-bit operation, 4 GB of RAM minimum (16 GB recommended), and approximately 200 MB of free disk space.
Installation is handled via separate macOS and Windows installers. Components install to standard locations:
- Windows: VST3 to Program Files/Common Files/VST3.
- macOS: AU to Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components; VST3 to Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3; AAX to Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-Ins.
Licensing includes three activations per license with no hardware dongle. Online activation is supported within the plugin and can be deactivated to free a slot. An offline activation method is available for systems without internet access; offline activations are permanent and cannot be revoked.
The plugin is available as a free download. A user manual is provided, and updates are offered at no cost.
Tokyo Speirs Releases Chance Free MultiFX Randomizer
Expiry: None
Tokyo Speirs has released Chance, a free multi‑FX randomizer developed by Friendgineer Labs for macOS and Windows. The plug‑in is available in VST3, AU, and AAX formats and is an entry in the KVR Developer Challenge 2026. Current version is 1.0.6 with online activation.
Chance assembles randomized effects chains drawn from four categories: delay, modulation, reverb, and harmonics. Users set the amount of each category and trigger a new randomized configuration to generate varied processing outcomes.
The processor includes a global dynamics stage with multiband compression and limiting to glue results and manage peaks produced by complex effect combinations.
Presets are provided to audition each effect category in isolation. When saving, presets store the blend settings for the four categories rather than the exact internal randomized state, encouraging fresh variations each time the effect is regenerated.
Intended uses include rapid creation of textures, transitions, and ear‑catching embellishments on sources such as drums, vocals, acoustic instruments, and guitars. As with any randomized processor, monitoring gain staging is recommended when exploring new combinations.
- Randomized multi‑FX processor combining delay, modulation, reverb, and harmonic effects
- User‑adjustable blend controls per category
- Global multiband compression and limiting stage
- Per‑category solo presets for auditioning
- Preset saving captures blend settings, not the underlying randomized state
