Plugin Alliance Offers Free Download of Mastering The Mix Animate Plugin
Expiry: March 24th
Plugin Alliance is offering a free download of ANIMATE by Mastering The Mix, a dynamics and enhancement plugin for mixing and mastering workflows.
ANIMATE is structured around four modules that can be used individually or together to shape dynamics, tone, and stereo image. Expand enhances transient detail to bring forward articulation and clarity in percussive or rhythmic material. Punch emphasizes attack characteristics to increase impact and definition. Ignite introduces harmonic excitation to add presence and perceived loudness. Grow applies stereo widening based on frequency content to increase width while aiming to preserve mono compatibility.
The plugin supports frequency‑selective processing, allowing users to focus each module on a defined range rather than affecting the entire signal. This targeting enables adjustments such as adding punch to the low mids of a snare, adding presence to a vocal’s upper mids, or widening only the high‑frequency content of synths or cymbals.
Real‑time visual feedback displays where processing is active across the spectrum. Modules can be engaged as needed, making it possible to combine transient enhancement, saturation, and stereo width in a single instance while maintaining control over the areas being processed.
Common applications include adding attack and consistency to drums, increasing articulation on guitars and keys, enhancing vocal clarity and brightness, and introducing controlled width to buses or full mixes. On the mix bus, subtle settings can be used to energize transients, add harmonics to support perceived loudness, and widen specific frequency regions without affecting the entire stereo field.
ANIMATE is available in standard plugin formats for macOS and Windows and is compatible with major DAWs that support VST, AU, or AAX.

Kern Audio releases CHECK free spectral mono compatibility analyzer for VST3 AU and standalone
Expiry: None
Kern Audio has released CHECK, a free spectral mono compatibility analyzer available as a VST3, AU, and standalone application. The utility visualizes frequency-dependent stereo-to-mono correlation in real time, helping users identify which parts of a mix may cancel or narrow when summed to mono.

At the center of CHECK is a spectral correlation curve spanning 40 ERB frequency bands. The display shows the current correlation alongside a peak-hold trace, indicating the worst state reached over time. Color-coded zones provide quick interpretation: green denotes mono-safe content, amber indicates caution, and red flags phase cancellation. On the scale, values above 0.6 are considered safe, while values below 0 suggest destructive phase interaction.
The plugin generates a bass-weighted mono compatibility score designed to reflect how low frequencies affect real-world playback. By default, frequencies below 200 Hz are weighted three times more than higher bands. A dedicated Bass control lets users adjust this emphasis from 0% (equal weighting) to 100% (maximum low-frequency weighting), allowing the score to be tailored to different monitoring priorities.
Display response can be shaped with the Speed control, which sets how quickly the curve reacts to changes or smooths toward an average over time. Focus limits analysis to Low, Full, or High ranges to isolate sub-bass or upper stereo content. A Zoom control highlights the frequency region with the poorest mono compatibility, directing attention to problem areas. Monitoring tools include a Mono button that collapses the output for direct audition of summing effects, and a Side mode that solos the difference signal to reveal what disappears in mono.
CHECK can be used on the master bus or individual tracks to spot frequency bands that collapse in mono, assess sub-bass translation, and guide decisions about stereo width, phase alignment, and low-end arrangement across playback systems including club PAs, phones, and Bluetooth speakers.
- Real-time spectral correlation across 40 ERB bands with peak hold
- Color-coded zones for mono-safe, caution, and phase-cancel regions
- Bass-weighted mono compatibility score with adjustable low-frequency emphasis
- Controls: Speed, Focus (Low/Full/High), Bass, and Zoom
- Monitoring: Mono collapse and Side (difference) audition
- 2048-point FFT
- Zero latency
- Formats: VST3, AU, and standalone
- macOS 12+ (Intel or Apple Silicon); Windows 10+ 64-bit (VST3)
- Works in VST3/AU-compatible hosts
Documentation covers control behavior, score zones, spectral correlation concepts, mono compatibility practices, and installation.
Atlas DSP makes DI KEN overdrive plugin free for Windows and Mac
Expiry: Unknown
Atlas DSP has made its DI KEN overdrive plugin free for macOS and Windows. Previously priced at €29.99, the plugin is designed as a front-of-amp saturation and dynamics processor for guitar and bass DI tracks inside a DAW.

DI KEN centers on a symmetrical clipping overdrive circuit with Gain, Tone, and Level controls. The Gain stage ranges from light saturation to heavier drive. The Tone control focuses midrange content for instrument articulation, and the Level parameter can push subsequent amp simulations harder if desired.
The plugin includes an integrated pitch shifter for musical transposition, subtle detuning for stereo width, and sub-octave generation. This removes the need for a separate pitch module in many setups.
A built-in noise gate targets the transient behavior of electric guitars and basses. It reduces noise floor artifacts, hiss, and hum while aiming to preserve natural decay and sustain.
Input and output sliders provide precise gain staging. Users can attenuate hot DI signals before the drive circuit and match output level to maintain headroom into an amp simulator or following processors.
Typical uses include tightening low-end for high-gain tones, adding controlled saturation to otherwise clean DI tracks, and consolidating multiple pre-amp processes—overdrive, pitch shifting, gating, and level management—into a single instance to simplify session workflows.
System requirements
- macOS 10.11 or higher
- Windows 7 or higher
- 4 GB RAM (8 GB recommended)
- 2 GHz CPU with at least 4 cores
- 64-bit DAW
- 250 MB free disk space
