ViatorDSP has recently launched a free version of their popular Duplex Comp Lite, a serial compressor plugin compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems. This new release aims to make this powerful tool more accessible to a wider range of users, allowing them to experience the benefits of the Duplex Comp system without any financial commitment.
The free version of Duplex Comp Lite, although lacking some features of the full version, still retains its core functionality. It does not include factory presets, oversampling, and a user manual built into the plugin interface. However, it does save the plugin state, ensuring that users can pick up where they left off in their audio mixing sessions.
Duplex Comp Lite is designed to simplify the mixing process by combining two serially cascading compressors and a limiter into a single package. This method of employing multiple compressors in series, each with different settings, is a common technique in mixing. With Duplex Comp Lite, this entire process is streamlined into one convenient interface.
In the plugin’s graphical user interface (GUI), the two compressors are referred to as “Units”, and the limiter is humorously named “Rent Control”. This is a playful reference to the plugin’s name, Duplex, highlighting the developer’s light-hearted approach to their product design.
The signal flow for Duplex Comp Lite is as follows: Unit 1 (Compressor 1) -> Unit 2 (Compressor 2) -> Rent Control (Limiter). This clear and simple signal flow helps users understand the process and use the plugin efficiently.
For those who wish to access the full functionality of the Duplex Comp system, a paid version is available at a cost of $19.99. This version includes all features omitted in the free version, offering users a more comprehensive tool for their mixing needs.
