About Klevgrand Tomofon
Tomofon by Klevgrand is a pioneering new synth that uses a revolutionary “Audio Model” format. This innovative virtual instrument can process massive volumes of waves extracted from real audio, providing a unique capability. The Tomofon enables you to play around with an included Audio Model Starter Pack, featuring a variety of instruments and voices, as well as presets. You can also import your own audio to mould your distinctive soundscapes, promising an immersive creative journey.
Unlike many other synths and samplers, Tomofon stands out as a musical instrument in its own right. It does not simply aim to mimic real instruments or voices but introduces a new “Audio Model” format. This format seamlessly transitions between different layers and sections of a massive amount of real audio waves, providing an instantly playable synthesizer. The synthesizer can sound very organic or something utterly out of this world. The extensive possibilities of modifying the character of the sounds add a new, multi-layered dimension to your music production.
Tomofon works by converting audio files into a large set of oscillating waves. These waves are then mapped into pitch zones where each wave signifies one layer, similar to how a sampler structures different velocity zones. However, the key difference is that Tomofon’s synth engine can morph between them, making all transitions between zones and layers continuous and seamless. The structure containing these organized wavetables is known as an Audio Model and lends Tomofon its dynamic properties and characteristic sound.
One of the significant features of this plug-in is the ability for users to import their own audio files and create new and unique Audio Models. Monophonic content can be easily imported and distributed into different pitch zones over the keyboard range, either automatically or manually. The automatic import is a one-click process that results in a proper playable Audio Model instantly. The manual import gives the user full control over which waves should end up in which pitch zone. Additionally, users can easily share their created Audio Models with others.
Tomofon v1.2 comes pre-loaded with a pack of 124 Audio Models, along with over 180 presets to help jumpstart your creativity. You can further experiment with the existing Audio Models, or begin using the plug-in’s built-in editor to shape and deconstruct your own sounds. More instruments, Audio Model Packs, and presets will be added by Klevgrand in the future. The product is also compatible with MPE.
