About Polyverse Supermodal
Supermodal by Polyverse is a powerful filter effect plugin that combines the forces of two exceptional filter sections. On its left interface is the Classic Filter, a zero-feedback state variable filter that smoothly transitions between lowpass, bandpass, and hipass filter modes. It has a fixed slope of 24 db per octave, similar to many prominent analog filters. The Classic Filter is capable of providing sweet and chunky filter sounds using its built-in saturation algorithm and input and output controls.
On the right of the Classic Filter lies the Modal Filter, Supermodal’s namesake. This ‘meta-filter’ consists of hundreds of resonant bandpass filters and features 27 different carefully crafted resonation behaviors. These behaviors emphasize various harmonics, known as partials, across the frequency spectrum. The filter models include ‘Vocal Formant,’ ‘Struck,’ ‘Waveform,’ and more, providing a wide range of variations.
The output of the Classic Filter and Modal Filter are combined for full-range filtering effects. Users can blend the results of the two filters with the ‘Blend’ knob control and adjust the effect subtly using the Dry/Wet mix slider.
Supermodal invites experimentation and discovery with its engaging and versatile user interface. Its ‘Modal XY’ control allows users to click, drag, and morph between filter models seamlessly. With the capability to automate, modulate, and tweak the transformations, Supermodal can be played like an instrument, creating dynamic filtering effects.
The plugin also comes with a powerful modulation section featuring four separate modulation slots. Each slot can be assigned to one of Supermodal’s six modulation sources, including Envelope Follower, ADSR envelope, Midi/CV input, Sequencer, Random Generator, and Meta Knob. The modulation ranges can be adjusted with Supermodal’s colorful sliders and set to positive or negative values, allowing for complex and spatial filter effects.
