The Oxford SuprEsser by Sonnox is a highly featured professional De-Esser and a Dynamic EQ. It boasts a user-friendly FFT display and three listen modes, allowing you to easily identify and remove problem frequencies. Not only can it trigger full band compression, but only the offending frequencies can be precisely carved out. Its ability to operate at all frequencies allows for effortless removal of ‘plosives’ and other sound issues, making it more than a simple De-Esser.

The Oxford SuprEsser is a fantastic solution for the treatment of sibilance and fricatives in vocals, as well as unwanted whistles and ‘spirant’ artefacts associated with wind instruments. It can also be applied to remove low-end ‘plosives’ and thuds from over-close vocal work, without affecting components nearby in the frequency spectrum, thus maintaining the low-end intact. It’s designed to only de-ess the frequency band you set, ensuring a natural-sounding result without over-de-essing.

At its core, the Oxford SuprEsser utilizes an enhanced version of the compressor section of the Oxford Dynamics plug-in, known for delivering precise and transparent control of peaks. This is surrounded by a pair of cross-over filters to make the compressor react only to the defined frequency band. These linear phase filters are modelled on the filters from the Oxford EQ, making the SuprEsser useful for precise mastering work as well as mixing work.

For ease of use, the Oxford SuprEsser offers three listen modes and an Auto Level Tracking mode, which allows the SuprEsser to automatically track the general signal level and adjust the threshold accordingly. It also comes complete with many presets to act as good starting points and gives full access to all controls for precise correction or even creative use.
